I'm not a blonde

What I AM is a crafty black girl. I was raised near farms and military bases. It don't get more excitin' than that. I like horses and aircraft. Go Army!

If I could find a picture of a black woman doing the same thing the white woman is doing in this picture, it would be me. But I can't. Sad but true, it's always been tough to find simple images of black people having simple fun. It's no wonder that people, including some blacks, believe that a happy Americana lifestyle is not meant for Blacks. Back in the day and some today, we are advertised differently. Black women are always straight talking and tough. Never innocent, never coy or the damsel in distress. I know it's because we HAD to be strong in order to survive in world that only believed in white purity/innocence. But, is that who we really are? Or is the attitude a reaction to environment that encouraged this toughness. Black women have to be strong. Really? I just wanna be a woman. Not some ghetto soldier. It's as if there was some law written that said we weren't free. Wait. There was. But, aren't we free now? If so, than why is there so much that 'blacks don't do'? Black ancestors fought for freedom all those years, yet we self limit.

I know it is intimidating to always be permenantly in the minority. There is really nothing any of us can do about that. The best thing we can do is relax and live our lives. Accept that there are benefits to being in the majority (even when the majority won't). But also admit that there are benefits to being a minority. You can't tell me that in a field of pink roses a purple one or even a group of purple ones won't stand out. The purples ones will garner more attention. Accept it gracefully. Yes, people are watching. Wow them.
